Biography

Professor Min-Xuan Zhang

Graduated with a PhD in Comparative Education from the University of Hong Kong, Professor Zhang Min-xuan has served as the President of Shanghai Normal University, Deputy Director of the Education Commission of Shanghai Municipal Government, President of Shanghai Academy of Educational Sciences and Director of Centre for International Education Studies and Consultation, Ministry of Education, China. He is the first person in Asia to be honoured as a “leader in global education”.

Professor Zhang is mainly engaged in the comparative study of education policies and the research of teacher education. He has presided over nearly 10 scientific research projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Social Science Foundation of China, and the National Education Scientific Planning and Research Programme and has conducted long-term research on the issues of university student financial aid policies, the emergence of tacit knowledge, and cross-border education policies. He has published dozens of papers in the local journal Education Research and professional journals of other countries. His theses, on more than one occasion, have won the National and Shanghai Outstanding Research Achievement Award. He has been recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Hong Kong. Professor Zhang has rich international experience and has been commissioned by the Ministry of Education on several occasions to participate in international conferences. He has been invited by international organizations such as the World Bank, UNICEF, IIEP, OECD, and the governments of the United Kingdom, the United States, and Cambodia to conduct research, evaluation, and policy-making consultation projects. He also serves on the international editorial boards of the Cambridge Journal of Education and the International Journal of Educational Development, as well as on the board of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE).

张民选教授拥有香港大学比较教育哲学博士学位，曾任上海师范大学校长、上海市教育委员会副主任、上海市教育科学研究院院长、教育部“国际教育研究与咨询中心”主任，是亚洲首位荣膺“全球教育领导者”的杰出人士。

他主要从事教育政策比较研究及教师教育研究，曾主持国家自然科学基金、全国社会科学基金、全国教育科学规划科研项目近10项，长期研究大学生资助政策、隐性知识显现、跨境教育政策等问题。在《教育研究》等国内外专业刊物上发表论文数十篇，论著多次荣获全国和上海市优秀科研成果奖。被评为香港大学杰出校友。张民选教授具有丰富的国际经验，先后数次受教育部委托参加国际会议，曾应世界银行、联合国儿童基金会、国际教育规划研究所、经济合作与发展组织等国际组织，以及英国、美国、柬埔寨等国政府的邀请，赴海外主持研究、评估和决策咨询项目。他还担任Cambridge Journal of Education和International Journal of Educational Development等期刊国际编委、国际高等教育质量保障网络组织理事。
