About the Session
Abstract: One of the key functions of basic education is to prepare students for future challenges, which may include short, medium and long-term challenges. Generally speaking, short-term future goals deal with students' academic performance in all subjects, that is their exam results; medium-term future goals comprise being accepted by a good college or getting a good job after graduation, and long-term future goals involve preparing students for the challenges that they may face throughout their lives. While many parents may be more concerned with the short and medium-term outcomes, Yew Chung and Yew Wah have been always emphasizing the importance of preparing students for their future lives, a goal which can never be ignored. This presentation highlights the reasons why Yew Chung and Yew Wah remains persistent in the achievement of these three goals and what have been done throughout the process.

Dr Troy Lui
Chief Education Officer, Yew Chung Yew Wah Education Network
Dr Lui obtained his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1986, 1989 and 1993 respectively. Since joining Yew Chung Education Foundation in 1993, Dr Lui has served in positions such as Chinese language teacher in the Primary and Secondary Schools, Coordinator of Chinese Language Curriculum Development, Director of Teaching and Research Department, Chinese Co-Principal of the Primary and Secondary Schools of Yew Chung International School (Hong Kong), Director of Chinese Curriculum Research Department, and Secretary General of Yew Chung Culture Committee.
During his tenure at Yew Chung Education Foundation, Dr Lui has been in charge of the research and development of the Chinese language and culture programmes of Yew Chung, including the editing of the Chinese as a First Language (CFL) and Additional Language (CAL) curriculum and Chinese Culture curriculum, the design of the CFL and CAL curriculum across all levels, and training for all Chinese language teachers.

摘要:基础教育的一个主要功能,是培养学生具备足够的能力,以应对未来的挑战,这可以包括短期、中期和长期的未来挑战。一般理解,短期未来的目标是学生在学科上的学业表现,也就是他们的考试成绩;中期未来的目标,则包括进入优秀的大学,或者在毕业后找到理想的工作;至于长期未来的目标,则涉及为学生未来一生人可能面临的各种挑战做好准备。尽管许多家长可能更关注短期和中期的结果,然而,耀中耀华却一直强调,为学生做好终身准备的重要性,是绝对不能被忽视的。本报告的重点,是介绍耀中耀华为何坚持不懈地实现这三个目标,并为此所作出的努力。

吕子德博士
耀中耀华首席教育总监
吕子德博士分别于 1986、1989及1993年取得香港中文大学文学学士、哲学硕士及哲学博士学位。1993年加入耀中教育机构,历任中小学部语文科教师、中文课程发展主任、教研部主管、耀中国际学校(香港)中小学华籍校长、中文课程研究部主管、耀中文化委员会秘书长等职。
于耀中教育机构服务期间,吕博士一直主管耀中中文及中国文化课程的研究及发展工作,包括中文作为第一第二语言的课程编订、中国文化科课程编订、各级第一第二语言的教材编写、各级中文教师的培训工作等。
